Name the job each service does

A small publication can use one domain for its website and email. Buying a second domain is not required to create a newsletter section or a normal mailbox. The services can come from different providers; the DNS settings connect them.

This is documentation-based planning, not a report of a configured domain or tested inbox. Names below are examples. A real setup must use the exact records shown by the chosen services.

ServiceWhat it doesExample
RegistrarManages the domain registrationRegister a chosen .com
DNS providerPublishes where domain services are foundWeb and email records

One domain can serve several destinations

Your main site, a guides directory, and a newsletter subdomain can share a single registration. A subdomain is not a separate domain purchase. Choose separate services when they solve separate jobs, not because the names make them sound mandatory.

For a Cloudflare Pages apex custom domain, Cloudflare documents adding the domain to Cloudflare and using its nameservers. Your registrar can remain elsewhere. When moving DNS, preserve existing mail and verification records; changing only the web record does not establish that email will keep working.

Two email tasks are easy to confuse

A mailbox lets you receive ordinary replies. A newsletter service sends to a subscriber list. Paying for one does not automatically provide the other. Decide where replies go and test that inbox before inviting readers to write.

For newsletter sending, follow the platform's verified-sending-domain setup. Kit supplies DNS records for its process. Do not copy another site's record values. A verified setup is a prerequisite for a credible sending configuration, not a promise that every message reaches the inbox.

Those first two examples total $23.08 before tax upfront. This is a planning example, not a purchased bundle or guarantee that a chosen name is available. Check checkout prices and eligibility. Under a $50 monthly cap, an unplanned $39 software renewal in the same month would bring that example to $62.08 before tax.

A useful setup checklist

  • Choose a name you can spell and explain. Check its exact registration and renewal price before buying.
  • Keep registration ownership, recovery email, and billing access under your control.
  • Record the active nameservers, web destination, mailbox destination, and newsletter sender in one worksheet.
  • Copy provider-generated DNS records carefully; preserve existing records until their purpose is understood.
  • Verify the public page, send and receive an ordinary reply, and use the newsletter provider's verification checks. Keep each result separate.
  • Save source files and exports. Changing a registrar does not change a hosting provider's content policy.

Questions before you decide

Do I need another domain for a newsletter or guides section?

No. A directory or subdomain can share the existing registration. You may still need separate hosting, mailbox, or newsletter services for their different jobs. Confirm the required DNS records with each provider rather than buying another domain by default.

Must I transfer my domain registrar to use Cloudflare Pages?

No. Cloudflare's apex-domain instructions require adding the domain to Cloudflare and using its nameservers; the registrar can remain elsewhere. Preserve mailbox and verification records when changing DNS. Setting up the website alone does not establish that email works.
