A monthly equivalent is not the next charge
Write the next invoice amount and date, not just the large number on a pricing card. A $390 annual subscription may be presented as $32.50 per month, but the cash leaves at once. If your cash cap is $50 in any month, that annual plan does not fit even if its average looks affordable.
The Kit pricing example here was checked September 13, 2026. The calculations are illustrations, not measured savings or earnings. Use your actual billing page before purchasing.
Compare the complete alternatives
Count only work the new tool actually removes. If the software creates a draft but a person still checks every row, subtract only the drafting time. If a task happens once a month, a daily time-saving claim is not relevant.
| Cost | Free/manual path | Paid/automated path |
|---|---|---|
| Cash | Any existing tools needed | Plan, tax, connected apps, usage and fees |
| Setup | Checklist and record design | Integration, permissions and initial testing |
| Recurring work | Minutes per task | Monitoring, exceptions and updates |
| Failure recovery | Find and correct missed work | Detect failed or duplicated actions |
| Exit | Export records | Export data and replace paid-only behavior |
Use a small, explicit example
Suppose a tool costs $39 a month, saves a measured 90 minutes, and adds 30 minutes of monitoring. Net time saved is one hour. At an assumed $25 an hour, that hour is worth $25, below the subscription price. That does not make the tool bad; it means time saving alone does not justify it under these assumptions.
Suppose setup takes four hours. Include that cost in your first-month comparison, and separately consider later months. Do not hide setup by spreading it across years you have not committed to using the product.
If you publish affiliate guides, separate earnings from payouts
Kit publicly advertises 50% for up to 12 months, subject to program terms and acceptance. An eligible full-price $39 monthly payment would produce $19.50 before adjustments. That calculation does not establish an approved referral or money in your bank.
Make's official affiliate help specifies 35% on subscription payments for 12 months from registration. A payout requires at least $100 and three unique paying users; the help says these conditions reset at each payout. Free registrations earn nothing. These published terms explain why a large percentage can still lead to slow cash receipts.
Record clicked links, registrations, paying referrals, pending commission, approved commission, and received cash separately. Product links carry their own disclosure. Commission examples are calculations, not reported earnings.
Choose the next reversible step
- Define one task and an acceptable result before activating a trial.
- Record renewal date, billing interval, cancellation method, and a reminder to decide.
- Do a small representative test before moving the whole workflow.
- Retain a working manual path while you measure.
- Upgrade when the required feature and total cost are clear. Keep unused budget available rather than buying a bundle because it appears discounted.

Questions before you decide
How much time must a $39 subscription save to justify its cost?
At an assumed $25 per hour, it must save more than 1.56 net hours per month to exceed $39 through time savings alone. Subtract monitoring and include setup separately. This is a calculation using assumptions, not a measured product result.
Can pending affiliate commissions fund my next software bill?
Do not budget them as received cash. Eligibility, adjustments, and payout conditions intervene. For example, Make's cited help requires at least $100 and three unique paying users for payout, with those conditions resetting at each payout. No referral or income is claimed here.
